Do you feel as though food has become a guessing game?
One day, you can tolerate a food. The next day, it leaves you bloated, uncomfortable, nauseated, constipated, or running to the bathroom. Perhaps you have already removed gluten, dairy, sugar, grains, nightshades, or FODMAP-rich foods—and yet you still do not feel well.
When you are struggling, it is easy to believe the answer is to restrict even more.
But more restriction is not always the path to healing.
What I Would Not Do
If I were experiencing food reactions, bloating, indigestion, or ongoing gut symptoms, I would not immediately start another restrictive diet.
I would not keep removing foods until my plate became tiny and eating became stressful.
I would not purchase another supplement simply because it was heavily promoted or offered at a “huge discount.”
And I would not rely on a home test that leaves me with a long list of confusing results but no meaningful plan.
These approaches may sometimes offer temporary relief, but they do not always answe the most important question:
Why is my body reacting this way in the first place?
Food Is Not Always the Root Problem
Food reactions can be real and uncomfortable. But food is often the messenger—not necessarily the root cause.
When the digestive system is under stress, many different factors may contribute to symptoms, including:
- Low stomach acid or impaired digestion
- Sluggish bile flow and difficulty digesting fats
- Changes in gut motility
- Microbiome imbalance or bacterial overgrowth
- Gut inflammation or increased intestinal permeability
- Chronic stress and nervous-system dysregulation
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Previous infections, medications, or repeated antibiotic use
This is why two people can react to the exact same food for completely different reasons.
What I Would Do Instead
I would seek a knowledgeable practitioner who takes time to understand my complete story—not just one symptom.
I would want someone to look at my health history, my digestion, my stress patterns, my diet, my medications, and the timeline of when my symptoms began.
When appropriate, I would consider comprehensive functional testing that can provide useful, applicable information and help guide a personalized plan.
And I would use high-quality supplements only when they are truly needed, in the right order, and with a clear purpose.
Healing is not about chasing every symptom with another product.
It is about understanding what your body needs in order to feel safe, supported, and able to function again.
Your Body Is Not Broken
If you are reacting to food, please know this: your body is not failing you.
It may be communicating that something deeper needs attention.
With the right support, a clear strategy, and patience, it is possible to move away from fear around food and toward greater confidence, nourishment, and freedom.
If you are tired of guessing and ready to understand what may be driving your symptoms, I invite you to schedule a Clarity Call with me.
I would love to meet you and help you find your next best step toward healing.
